Can Unauthorised Changes be identified if you are Using JIRA Service Desk?

Mike Norman August 12, 2021

I may be starting an assignment at a client that is using JIRA Service Desk.

I do not know if they have plans to upgrade to JIRA Service Management.

The client wants improvements in its change management function.

One required improvement is to reduce the numbers of unathorised changes.

Please could each of my questions be answered individually?

1. Does JIRA Service Desk have the ability to identify both Configuration Items (BOTH applications AND  Infrastructure) that have been changed - and then identify if the change is associated with a Change Request or not?

2. Can a third party product (such as Tripwire) be integrated with JIRA Service Desk to provide the functionality described in question 1?

Thank you

@Mike Norman

Jira Service Desk does not have monitoring tools to identify application or infrastructure changes.  You can set up request types for each that individuals can submit but Jira would not know when the changes occur or if they match what was submitted.

According to Tripwires documentation, it integrates with Jira https://www.tripwire.com/products/tripwire-enterprise/tripwire-enterprise-integration-framework-register so it looks like you could use that application to alert the service desk of changes.  I am not sure how you would match the information being sent by tripwire to a request that has been submitted other than manually doing it if there are not specific identifiers you could use to link the two.
