I want to send a "Reply to Customer" message by sending the ticket number.
I am using {{issue.key}} smart value of this use case, but this is sending a link to the customer which they cannot access.
I just want to insert "GIS-42389" without any link.

have you tried creating a variable with the value of {{issue.key}} and referencing that?
Just a guess - I actually never noticed {{issue.key}} is transformed as a link. It might be that the view/portal is recognizing the pattern and will automatically interpret it as issue link rather than it being formatted as link right away.
