Automation With Custom Fields Filled Out

Jonathan Forrester
May 2, 2019

I wanted to ask everyone, is there a way to create automation where if a certain field (Text / Numbers) is filled out with anything then create a subtask. Ex. 4 Fields are specified so 4 sub tasks are created with that information.

Thanks!

Hi @Jonathan Forrester

There are a couple of ways you can do that (I use both depending on the scenario among a couple of others but this will get you on your way). Both involve plugins that you may or may not have.

  • Automation for Jira: You can set it so, for a given trigger, look at the value of your field and create the subtask
  • JMWE: This is my preferred approach; JMWE will create subtasks conditionally as part of a post function and populate fields either based on contents of other fields, parent fields, or groovy expressions.

Can it be ANY value or does it have to be specified?

Using either of those methodologies, the test on the field can either be for specific content or ANY content (not null)

Perfect. Thank you for the help!
