Automatically populate custom field based on Reporter

I have a custom field setup (select list) that I want to automatically populate based on who the reporter of an issue is. The custom field has a customized priority, and I want issues raised by certain people to automatically get assigned a different value from that custom field.

Any assistance you can provide would be much appreciated.

You can not do it out of the box. You can develop your own plugin or use such plugins as Power Scripts, ScriptRunner, Workflow Toolbox or Automation for Jira.
