Auto-complete field access external POSTGRES database

I have read the following thread but don't believe it answers my particular query which is, is it possible, via plugin or bespoke code, to have a auto complete text field in jira server, which accesses a particular column of a table in a POSTGRES (or alternative) database?

@Atif JungAs you are on server version of Jira, this is surely possible.

If you are thinking of custom plugin (the best choice) here are rough details,

• Create custom field type plugin in your Jira
  • https://developer.atlassian.com/server/jira/platform/creating-a-custom-field-type/
• In settings allow user to configure what database connection, table and column to use for autocomplete.
• Create Rest API to fulfill auto-complete request for plugin based on field.
  • https://developer.atlassian.com/server/framework/atlassian-sdk/rest-plugin-module/
• In UI, use autocomplete plugins (such as JQuery Autocomplete) to make a request to back-end api you created.

Hopefully this will give you idea of how to proceed.
