Auto Update Date field, and reporting on Worklogs

1. Automation - Is it possible to automatically update a date field if a date object is used in a text field (e.g., if comment includes a specific DATE then update custom field 'Check-in Date' with said DATE)?
2. Work Log Fields - Is it possible to use search/reporting function for work log fields? I cant even find any fields realted to worklogs in the JQL.

Not with automation. You could do it with ScriptRunner or another app that allows you two write scripts where you could parse the comment and then take an action. However, that could easily be fraught with error as it is free text. I am curious why you would want to parse a comment, look for a date somewhere in it and then update a date field?
