Assets - Automatically increment hostname when a new object is created

Hello!

I'm hoping someone can help.

I'm looking to automate our naming convention in Jira Service Management - Data Center version 5.4.14, within Assets.

What I'd like to do is when someone creates a new asset object, I'd like the hostname attribute to automatically increment by 1.

For example:

AB23123

and when a new object is created:

AB23124

Is this possible, and if so, how could I go about it?

As an additional question, we use part of the year. Would I easily be able to edit the above naming convention next year to be something like AB24123 instead, without overriding the old hostnames?
