Hello, I am new here and our company is new to Atlassian JIRA, and we are looking at the Asset part of JIRA and to track our IT hardware inventory along with licenses, any thoughts/concerns/ideas/help from those that use it or have used it? Thank you for your time
Thanks
Candace
Hi @Candace Springman ,
Firstly, welcome to the Community!
Regarding Assets, here are some useful materials:
For some 'more advanced' materials, I would suggest Atlassian Success Central and articles such as this one https://success.atlassian.com/solution-resources/itsm-resources/use-cases-reference-architectures/jira-service-management-for-financial-services
Regarding IT Asset Management (hardware tracking and such), Assets also contain templates for object schemas across common use cases like IT Asset Management, People, and Facilities, which you can check out - create new schema via any template and you can use or modify default objects, attributes and everything that comes with the template.
When it comes to 'recommendations' - I would follow the motto "Start simple". Don't get dragged into too complex configurations at the beginning. However, when designing schemas and objects, try to think in advance about how you can scale the system whenever you need to add or reconfigure new/existing objects and relations. What seemed to work the best was using as many as possible default elements and adding those custom items that were just necessary.
Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Tom
