Is there a way to approve service desk requests via email? I know there are email notifications that will prompt the user to log in and approve the ticket in the JSD console itself but is there a way the approver can reply to an email or approve from the email itself?

Currently, it's not possible to approve requests via email. We have a feature request suggesting the implementation of this ability:
