Any harm in setting com.atlassian.servicedesk.embedded user to inactive?

jaybarts January 7, 2019

I have reached my maximum of 10 active users.  I want to set one of the JIRA system users "com.atlassian.servicedesk.embedded" to inactive to make room for another team member.  Will setting the "com.atlassian.servicedesk.embedded" user inactive cause any system issues?

@jaybarts, welcome to the Community. I'm using cloud so maybe Server is different here but doubt it. Those 'users' should not be counting as agents I would think. When you go to user management and list all active JSD access users what do you see. I would expect to see only those real users. Are you saying you don't have 10 actual real users and seeing an error?

Hi @Jack Brickey, thanks for the reply.

The Cloud version must work differently because I have just confirmed that the embedded user counts towards the max user license count.  When I list all active users, the embedded user appears in the list (see screenshot)EmbeddedUser_Active.png

It turns out I need more than just one additional user anyway, so I am working on purchasing the next tier license.  In any case, thank you for your response.

that seems unfortunate. what addon are these associated with? depending on that it might make more sense to me.

so it appears to be the Embeddable Widget. I would reach out to their support and ask about this.

I'm guessing the Embedded Gadgets Plugin, but I'm not sure how to verify...

There are two plugins I can see listed with the embedded keyword:

So I was chatting w/ other champions and one of them pointed out that this is not associated with an addon at all but it is a System user. These definitely should not count against licensing. Please count up your non-system users.

here is what i see in the User Management screen if I hover over the "System" label

When I currently filter all users with "Active" status, the total result is 10 (including the embedded user) as reported by the system.  When I set the 11th user to Active status, I see the following message:

Are you suggesting this is a defect in the system?

I am running JIRA Server v7.7.0

At this point I would suggest you reach out to Atlassian Support so they can examine and explain. I know that system accounts do not count as billable licenses for my (cloud) instance and when last I was on server that was the case as well. There may be a perfectly reasonable explanation for the error you are seeing that is unrelated to the system accounts but as I cannot access your system to investigate (nor would you likely want me to :-)) I can't really determine the cause.
