[Feature Release] Improved Portal Display for Assets Custom Field 🎉

Hello Assets Community 👋,

Following our previous announcement, we’re excited to announce the release of an update to the behavior of the Assets custom field on the portal - a change aimed at improving consistency and usability, based on feedback from many of you.

What’s the problem we solved?

Previously, when users selected an object using the Assets custom field on the portal, all searchable attributes were shown. However, this was inconsistent with how the field appeared in the issue view, where only the object label is displayed. Additionally, the portal lacked any customization options for what information was shown, often leading to:

  • Difficulty identifying selected objects due to overwhelming attribute data.

  • Confusion caused by different behaviors between the portal and issue views.

  • Limited flexibility for tailoring the portal view to suit specific use cases.

What’s new?

We’ve just released two key improvements:

Consistent Display Behavior:
The portal now shows only the label of the selected object—mirroring the behavior in the issue view for a cleaner and more consistent experience.

New Portal Display Configuration:
Admins can now configure which attributes appear in the portal view of linked objects, just like they can for the issue view. This gives teams more control and flexibility to tailor the experience for their end users.

What’s the impact?

These changes are designed to:

  • Make it easier for users to identify objects at a glance.

  • Eliminate confusion across different screens.

  • Provide teams with customization options to better support their specific workflows.

What’s next?

We’re now exploring how to bring the same consistency and flexibility to Forms. Our goal is to provide a consistent & flexible user experience to power different workflows on the portal and in the issue view.

📌 Please follow this ticket for further updates.

When is this available?

The changes are live now for all customers! 🎉
No action is required on your end to enable them, but we encourage you to explore the new settings once available and see how they can help optimize your portal setup.

If you run into any issues or have feedback, feel free to reach out here or through your regular support contacts. We’d love to hear how the changes are working for you.

This is a really helpful update! 👏

We used it in our onboarding form to let users choose a responsible manager for a new employee - now with the custom field, it also shows the manager’s country and role, which makes everything clearer. Thanks for improving this! 😊

Great change, thank you!

One additional thing our users would love is if the portal view (and issue view) maintain the order of selected Assets. We have instances where the order matters and right now users always have to clarify in the notes if they expect a certain order for selected assets.
