Any plans to tie a few JPD system date fields together to help harmonize with Jira, Plans, etc.?

Currently, as many of you know the date fields work differently between Jira and Jira Product Discovery. This is a good community article written by @Robert DaSilva describing the differences and how you can use automation to modify JPD dates.

In cases where you may need to align on a date between an idea/JPD item and other work items across Jira, the workaround is to set up automation to sync fields. However, there are a few system fields in Jira that are baked into other features/functions (Start date, End date in Plans, Due date in many gadgets and UI features, etc.)

Is there any work being done to set up a few system Jira Product Discovery date fields that play nice with the Jira system date fields so that things are abstracted away for users of both to potentially pull the work items/ideas into the same reports/plans/sections?

Would be great if Atlassian is solving it with some sort of easy abstraction? Before then, is the recommendation to set up some global JPD date fields and a global automation rule to help keep things in sync? Any other best practices?

Hey @Greg D, you can autofill date fields on an idea in Jira Product Discovery based on its linked delivery tickets. Here's how. The fields that you can link are start date, actual start, actual end, and due date.

We do not currently support start and end dates; we will consider it in the future.

Thanks @Kamila Czubaj... and since that feature was published, I believe the global JPD fields and connecting to Jira fields in general were improved. Is the guidance that you should make a few global JPD date fields that you then auto-fill for this purpose across all discovery spaces so that you can make this more scalable across all ideas and delivery items?

We have been trying to cleanup our overall Jira custom fields to harmonize everything and since there is a gap in JPD not being able to use any Jira date fields, we are trying to think through the best long-term approach there. Would be great to truly link a JPD global date field and Jira global date field so that ad-hoc search and reporting only needs to look for one term.
