Forge App Jam #5 - Configuration Explorer: Visualize Screens used in Workflow Transitions

In this new hands‑on Forge live build, we’ll explore how to make Jira configuration easier to understand, navigate, and share – right inside Jira.

This idea was inspired by this post (with associated script) from @Nikola Perisic.

Jira admins often need to answer questions like:

  • “Which workflows are using this screen?”

  • “Where is this field actually visible?”

  • “How do I quickly review configurations across projects for an audit?”

Manually clicking through admin screens to piece this together can be time‑consuming because it requires a lot of manual navigation.

So in this episode, we’ll start designing and building a Jira configuration explorer app – aiming for a tool that surfaces this information directly in Jira, with powerful filtering and export options.

We’ll build it on Forge’s jira:adminPage module so it lives natively in the Jira admin experience.

💡 The screenshot below is an early concept of the kind of experience we’re working towards in this series.

🧭 What we’re building in Episode 5

We’ll use Forge to lay the foundations of an in‑product view that helps you:

  • Display workflow data and associated screens directly inside Jira

  • Navigate with one click to the underlying configuration

  • Filter the configuration data to focus on exactly what you need

  • Export to CSV for audits, reviews, or sharing with your team

In this episode, we’ll focus on wiring up the core pieces: reading Jira configuration, getting it into a useful shape, and presenting an initial UI that Jira admins and power users can build on.

You’ll leave with a reusable pattern you can extend for your own configuration‑related tools.

This episode is scheduled on:

📅 Tuesday, 10 March 2026 – 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM PST
