For me, the greatest success has been for a team to finally understand the usefulness of the tool, to set up a kanban board with them, and after a few months of training and support, to see how they themselves have evolved, improved, and even taken the initiative to make changes to their work. It has been the best experience, enriching and very satisfying, both personally and professionally
I just started working for a company that had a bad experience with Agile and I have them now successfully using agile methodologies and running sprints.
I started as a Jira user back in 2007 and since 2010 as a Jira administrator. I've done a lot of work for various clients, with many integrations, many customizations, many upgrades, a lot of code written, and, above all, millions of calls. In recent years, we've been working hard on cloud migrations.
A lot of work, in short, but with one goal... simplifying customers' lives and improving their processes.
I started my admin journey almost 2 years ago and I am loving it! I have done amazing things with confluence templates and Jira configuration. I have introduced a new intake screen for our bugs.
I started my career as a software engineer having to detail and track my work as issues in projects in this tool called Jira. That was 17 years ago. In the time since then I took over configuring things within the tool. It started out that I was configuring projects I worked within. Then people took notice that the projects I worked in were easier to understand and provided more reliable data to report on. I was then tasked with helping others get their projects more efficient and easier to manage. I taught myself how to work with automation and how to identify when it would be useful to recommend. All that leads to where I am today. A Principal Atlassian Cloud Administrator helping to manage a large userbase, using several Atlassian apps, and several marketplace apps. I'm passionate about the work that I do and I have Atlassian to thank for that.
EDIT: Oh wow, I completely forgot to mention that I also joined the Atlassian Champions program, which has been an amazing experience!
Happy Jira Admin month, my July community event discussion is all about the Admin activities and best practices to be followed when setting up Bitbucket and integrations, with regards to user permissions, Configuring project settings, smart commits etc.
Not sure how I stumbled upon this post from last month, but I am a new Jira admin. I was thrown into the role because my organization needed someone to migrate us from Jira Server to Cloud. We are just in the testing phase now, but my big win this week was getting Jira single sign-on implemented with Microsoft Entra.
After consulting for a few years, I got a job as a fulltime Jira Admin again. And I love it. It's good to be back with a team and working in the same environment everyday.
Itβs been over 9 years of working with Atlassian tools, and what a journey itβs been! From the early days of Jira 6 on Server, through the evolution to Data Center, and now thriving in the CloudβI've had the chance to wear every hat from L1 to L4 support.
Jira has been more than just a tool for meβit's been a platform to learn, grow, and solve real-world challenges at scale. Whether itβs customising workflows, automating processes, or helping teams collaborate better, every version brought new lessons and new possibilities.
Grateful to be part of this vibrant community that keeps pushing the boundaries of whatβs possible with Jira. Hereβs to all the admins out there making magic happen behind the scenes! π οΈπ
