Risks Supporting Change Requests?

Sandra D Potter
April 30, 2026

Hey Folks,

I heard there was a configuration of the risk functionality which would allow CRs to be tracked and managed. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Sandra,

Yes. Jira Service Management has built-in risk management for change requests.

For a change request, you can use the Change risk field to record the assessed risk, and JSM also provides Risk Insights to help approvers identify potential risks such as:

  • Recent or ongoing incidents affecting the same service

  • Conflicting or upcoming changes

  • Previous rejected changes and failed deployments

These insights are available from the change request and can be configured under Project/Space settings → Operations → Change management → Risk insights.

There is also an automated risk assessment capability using Rovo, which can evaluate a change and provide an overall risk level plus suggested mitigations. This is available on Jira Service Management Premium and Enterprise.

So, depending on what you mean by “track and manage” risks, the functionality is there through the Change risk field + Risk Insights, with the newer Rovo AI risk assessment available on Premium/Enterprise.
