I template was created by another user and a heading in one of the cells has a spelling error. The template has been used hundreds of times. Instead of updating the spelling error across hundreds of documents, is it possible to update the template and apply the update to all of the previously created pages?

I believe the answer to your question is No. As with many applications, once you create a Confluence page from a template, it is disconnected from the template. (In applications where it isn't, you can generally only update the styles, not the content.)
