How do you use "approval process" in Confluence?

Hi all, here seems to suggest there is an approval process in Confluence you can use:

https://support.atlassian.com/confluence-cloud/docs/request-and-manage-approvals-in-confluence/

For confirmation I am indeed on enterprise.

And I am indeed using a page, and I can see how I can add any random status if I want to, but I don't see this particular part of the documentation:

  • Open the content status menu.

  • Select Start approval to begin configuring your approval request.

  • Add the people who need to approve the page.

Am I misunderstanding something? Cheers!

From my experience, it usually takes a while for it to be rolled out/enabled on all sites... Even after they announce it here on forums 😅

I've also tried checking the change log/app updates under admin.atlassian.com > Apps > Release management > App updates, but it would seem they haven't added it there (I guess as it's only beta) 👀

But Kris would know best, as I see he's currently struggling with this being enabled 😄

Definitelly would recommend reaching out to Atlassian Support if you don't see the option to enable it within the next couple of days.

I played with this today, and it seems quite promising (although we don't need any specific or heavy requirements regarding approval).

Thanks @Tomislav Tobijas , that matches exactly what I saw. Worth adding for anyone landing here: sandboxes get enabled separately from production, so a site can show it in one and not the other even within the same org.

@Kris Klima _K15t_ , if the New Features row still hasn't appeared, the support ticket Tomislav mentions is the fastest route, and it can enable a sandbox independently.

Hi @Calvin , @Kris Klima _K15t_ & @Evgenii
Adding one data point from a Premium sandbox where I switched Approvals on tonight and walked it end to end. What I found is that there are four separate gates in front of "Start approval", and the support page only mentions the first:

  1. Plan: Premium or Enterprise.
  2. Rollout: the feature has to have reached the site. It shows up as an Approvals row (labelled Beta, arriving switched off) at your-site.atlassian.net/wiki/admin/newfeatures. If the row is not there, no other setting will help; the Open Beta announcement comments say a support ticket can bring it forward, and sandboxes are enabled separately from production.
  3. Space mode: after that toggle, Space settings gains a "Status and approvals" item with three modes. "Enable statuses only" lets you add custom statuses but hides approvals completely; it needs "Enable statuses with approvals".
  4. Only then does "Start approval" appear in the status menu and at publish time.

Full walk-through with a screenshot of each gate here: https://community.atlassian.com/forums/Confluence-articles/Confluence-Approvals-Beta-the-four-gates-between-quot-available/ba-p/3278244. Thanks to everyone on this thread; comparing the different experiences here is what made the pattern visible.

I hope this helps.

Hi @Sami Shaik

Thanks for the detailed walkthrough. But I'm afraid the issue is deeper. The good folks of Atlassian are trying to figure out why it haven't rolled out to my Premium site and how to get it there :)

Enabled this feature, and exactly same situation. What is "Content status"? Don't see anything relevant.

Manual differs from reality.

Well, @Evgenii , you're lucky to have this feature available. I've checking every day since it was announced over a month ago and it's still missing from my Premium Confluence :(

There's no "Status and approvals" setting in my Site (and spaces).

I found this option in "New Features".
https://your-company.atlassian.net/wiki/admin/newfeatures
After enabling it, "Statuses and Approvals" appeared in space settings.

Yeah, checked that too a few days ago. And now.

That's all I have. The latest news from two years ago :)
