Footer bar fills the screen

alex_summersby June 9, 2025

I am experiencing a bizarre problem. When I enter Edit mode, the content of my Confluence page appears in a tiny sliver of a window with the bottom footer bar of the Confluence interface filling about 7/10ths of the screen (see screenshot). Screenshot 2025-06-09 at 16.29.29.pngI can scroll the content of my page and edit it, but only in a tiny slice of screen space. What has happened? Have I inadvertently hit some secret key command to expand the footer panel? How do I revert to a usable layout?

I have tested this in multiple browsers, in Incognito/private mode as well, and still have this issue.

Hi @alex_summersby, it appears to be an issue with the legacy editor.  You should be able to click that link to switch to the new editor, and your issue should be resolved.

I know there are some sites that have their reasons for not using the new editor, but if you don't have and specific issues, I would suggest switching to the new editor.  You can also see what your page would look like in the new editor, and if there aren't any issues, keep it that way.

The new editor has been out for about 5 years.  Here's some more info on converting your pages: New Editor

Hope that helps.

Yeah, thanks, but there are several aspects of the "new editor" I really don't like – for example, the constant popups really get in the way, and when I attempt to position two images side-by-side, which I routinely need to do, it is incredibly clunky. Actually, image handling is just a pain all round. It does not preserve local text formatting when I cut and paste to move content from one place to another. But all that is not the point. Legacy editor or no, the fact remains: something that was working fine has broken and needs to be repaired.
