We are migrating to the Cloud soon (from Server) and have been informed that all Confluence Multiexcerpt and Multiexcerpt-include macros will be defunct once on the Cloud.

We need to know what impact this issue no longer having the Multiexcerpt and Multiexcerpt-include macros will have for us and we need to know how to get around this issue, and is there anything we can do before the migration to avoid the issue. Or is there a workaround?

We are a company of 500 employees around the world, we plan to migrate to Cloud in 2026. We use Confluence and Jira for just about everything. We have 100 instances of using the Multiexcerpt and <+Multiexcerpt-include macros.

It looks like there is a 3rd-party Multiexcerpt that's available for cloud: https://appfire.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/ME/pages/289476830/User+guide

If you have any non-prod environments on DC/Server (and you're allowed), I'd recommend downloading the app there and attempting a migration to the 3rd-party solution prior to the cloud migration.

Server native-Multiexcerpt -> to Server 3rd-party-Multiexcerpt -> to Cloud 3rd-party-Multiexcerpt

Hi April,

Good news - you actually don't need an app for this use case in Confluence Cloud anymore.

Confluence now natively provides improved Excerpt and Excerpt Include macros that support multiple excerpts on a single page. This should cover exactly what you need without requiring an add-on.

Best regards,

Jan

@Matt and @Jan Kuntscher - appanvil - Aura Karma Mantra pointed this out correctly.

  • We were also using the Multiexcerpt app by Appfire when we were still on server. Confluence server did not support multiple excerpts on one page.
  • On Confluence cloud, the Multiexcerpt app is not necessary anymore, as the Excerpt/Insert Excerpt feature supports multiple named excerpts on one page.
  • You may want to install the Multiexcerpt app nevertheless to preserve your current excerpts and to replace them by native excerpts over time.

Additional note: The Multiexcerpt Cloud app also finds and displays native Confluence excerpts, which is nice IMHO.

Cheers,
Kirstin
