Sharing just got a lot simpler in Confluence. The new live sharing experience makes it faster to grant access and easier to see exactly who can do what. Here’s what you’ll notice right away:
Live updates: Every change you make is applied instantly – no Save button needed. What you see in the dialog is always the source of truth.
Separate controls: Specific access (people) and General access (overall visibility) operate independently. Adjusting one won't automatically alter the other, giving you more precise control.
Persistent access: When you share with someone directly, they stay on your specific access list, so their access is never in doubt.
Let's walk through the key improvements you'll notice the next time you share content in Confluence.
We've replaced the old stage-and-save workflow with a live dialog. Every access change applies instantly — no save button, no guesswork. What's on screen is always what's real.
If you share content with a specific person, group, or team, they will now always show up in the Specific access list, regardless of the content’s General access.
Note: If you aren’t authorized to manage access on a content item, you can still notify people, but those actions won’t change the specific access list.
Switching between "Restricted" and "Open" no longer wipes out your specific access list. The two settings now work independently, so you can tighten or relax access without losing the individual permissions you've already set.
New content you create now includes you on the specific access list by default, making it clear that you — the creator — always have access. This won't apply retroactively to content you've already created.
We’ve decluttered the share flow. When you’re adding someone new, the view is now more focused on the core decisions: Who are you sharing with? What is their access level? Do you want to notify them? Do you want to add a message?
We want to hear your thoughts on the new live sharing experience. Share your feedback in the comments here or next time you share in Confluence through the feedback collector (we read every submission).
Cheers!
