I'm trying to connect Compass to Github so we can autofill the info in components.
Steps I performed:
- Under apps install Github for Compass
- Pressed connect
- Selected our organization account
- Selected all repo's and pressed save, no redirect, so new page to compass.
- Open 'manage apps' webpage and it says to configure Github
I thought maybe it is always there, so I went to a component and checked:
- Select 'add deployments'
- Select 'Github'
- Press install
It loads for a sec and then shows the button again.
What is needed to fix this?
Hi @Jeroen O ,
Can you confirm that you're GitHub organization owner and Compass admin? I'm also guessing you've followed official instructions for connecting the two: Integrate Compass with GitHub ?
Also, I believe only one instance of Compass can be connected to a GitHub organization at a time. Check if it isn't already connected to another Compass instance 👀
One thing that could also work is 'turning it off and on again' > try to reinstall the GitHub app (uninstall from GitHub organization's admin page). Once you've uninstalled it, return to Compass and connect and authorize again.
There's one thing/bug to keep in mind and it's related to "Restricted Link" on the component's GitHub URL; see COMPASS-120: Github Repository URL on Component shows "Restricted Link"
Anyway, if even after confirming permissions and reinstallation you're experiencing issues, you might want to try to reach out to Atlassian Support team as they can probably take a look in the backend to see what's going on.
Cheers,
Tobi
Hi Tomislav,
I'm indeed the GitHub organizations owner and the compass admin.
This is the first time we are using Atlassian products so I don't think there was one connected earlier. Secondly I also tried deleting the link in its entire, so deleting the app on both platforms and doing a re-install.
I saw that issue indeed, but we don't get the data connected banner, we do get the restricted link though.
We have the free version so we don't get help from Atlassian unfortunately.

Got it. Thanks for clarifying @Jeroen O !
I've asked someone from Community Support to take a look at it, and they'll probably get back to you in a day or 2.
*btw, what you could also do is update to the free paid trial plan to raise a ticket and then switch back to Free plan once the issue is resolved

@Jeroen O you mentioned that there was no redirect back after authorizing Compass and that reminds of a situation where a "Compass app in GitHub" was left installed there and wouldn't allow to connect the organization. You mentioned deleting the app in both platforms but just in case linking to this thread that had more detailed instructions. Let me know if that ends up redirecting back to Compass after completing the installation.

Hi enrique, so I just tried it again and this time I got redirected but to the same page where I have to configure it, after like 20 seconds I got redirected and it was showing options like which repo, so not sure what changed because I did he same as the other times but it works I guess.
