Hi everyone,
I’m exploring Atlassian Compass for a non-software environment and would appreciate some guidance from people who’ve tried it outside traditional development teams.
We run an HVAC and fire-safety company in Pakistan, and even though we don’t build software, our work depends heavily on a set of technical “components” — things like different types of HVAC systems, fire-safety equipment, electrical panels, control units, and the documentation that goes with them.
I’m trying to figure out whether Compass can help us track all of this in a structured way. A few questions came up while testing it:

Hi @mubeen shahbaz ,
Well, although Compass is designed to catalog "components," which are typically software artifacts, you could maybe use "Other" type for anything that doesn't fit the standard software categories.
I guess things like HVAC systems, fire-safety equipment, electrical panels, etc. could all be "components."
Similar to software components, you can then include ownership, documentation links, dependencies, and all other necessary entities.
Now, when I think of it, I might try to construct something for my personal/home project to see how it will go 😄 Maybe I could create a component for electrical assets and such 🤔
It would be cool to hear how others are using this 'feature' for their needs. 👀
Cheers,
Tobi
