I have gone through the struggle of getting all of my credentials and badges linked to my account, after I changed companies and lost access. But it is all back now...shew!
I prefer to have my professional email linked to all things Atlassian, but our profile setup prefers us to use a personal email address. (So that ding dongs like myself don't lose access ;).
So I deal with it. BUT, in viewing our badges, and Kudos points and 'levels' we have earned, I see different stats and have to 'switch accounts' to see the most valid results. I'm connected to all of my forums and groups through my company email, but yet have to switch to my personal email account to track my profile stats.
When I receive an email from Atlassian, it is sent to my professional email, so when I click on a link it takes me to that page, with my professional account. But, again, all of my kudos and badges only show in my personal account.
Am I being picky? Or am I missing some setting so that my profile and points are reflected correctly? How do others handle the personal/professional email setup within the Community?
It's definitely confusing. Do our credentials belong to us as individuals or the organizations we work for?
good question!
You can link the two accounts and set up the private one as Primary.
I do recommend doing that and continue using your private account for your activities here.
I'm speaking from experience :)
I have my kudos and badges in my profile... but I keep collecting those low-hanging badges as those are awarded per account.
Confusing to say the least but I understand there are technical obstacles to merging accounts, especially if one is 'managed' (managed by your organization).
That is actually how I have it set up. It just bugs me that when I click on an Atlassian email in my company account, and it opens up a link in Atlassian under my company email, that I then have to switch accounts to my personal email to be under the 'right' account for levels and points, etc. Thank you!
Thank you for posting this dilemma / question @Cassandra_Fitzgerald I started wondering about this very thing, so not being picky, more curious, and process improvement driven. I am so glad all of your work is not lost that's the main thing...Rising Star took a lot of work🤩 I see @Kris Klima _K15t_ shared some great insight about this and it does seem a bit confusing, but good to know what others are doing about this challenge. Thanks again, I am glad you are part of this community...and from Indiana, GO HOOSIERS!!!!
I would do it the same way @Kris Klima _K15t_ described and keep the personal account as the primary one. That feels like the safer setup to me as well. In the Community, company email can get tricky very fast once you change jobs or lose access, and then all the history around badges, Kudos, groups, and profile activity becomes messy. Kris already pointed in that direction in the thread.
Also, for me Community is not only tied to daily work. It is a mix of work, learning, events, groups, and personal interests around the Atlassian ecosystem. Because of that, I would never want to tie that identity too tightly to a work mailbox/Account.
