Hello

I'm using Copilot Studio and I have tried these Atlassian MCP Servers

1. https://mcp.atlassian.com/v1/mcp/authv2

2. https://mcp.atlassian.com/v1/mcp

Both cannot set a custom field in the Jira Service Management Project.

They can set only predefined jira fields.

I have configured the MCP server as a Tool in Copilot Studio.

Please help.

Kind regards,

Vinay

I've found the easiest way to use custom fields with the agent is that insread of having them try to guess at it, go fill out a ticket using your own values and then prompt the AI by saying something like "Look up this ticket for reference and document the custom field names and their purpose" and then tell it to use that information when building the skills/memory/rules.  THen you can do things like "Look up all the fields for this issue, the field with the value of "XyZ" is "DisplayName of CustomField", use this field for "CbA Purposes"

I tried it, I keep getting this error:
⚠️ Note: The Request Type custom field could not be automatically set to "ABCD" due to a permission restriction from the Jira API. You may need to set it manually on the ticket via the Jira portal.

There are different APIs for the Jira Service Desk spaces. These are not present in the Jira MCP.

Are you using any custom permissions schemes that restrict accounts from viewing some things?

Hello Anthony,
I have configured standard MCP by specifying URL, Description, name etc.
Authentication OAuth with Dynamic Discovery. When we connect, Copilot will show some predefined check boxes for Jira Permissions. I had selected all of them.

I'm somewhat sure that Jira team has not implemented this feature. Only Custom Fields are not set. Others are set.

It did work once when i asked Copilot, why is this custom field not set. It answered saying you need to set ID and not string as value for the custom type.  After that Copilot updated the ticket with the Request Type using a string value.
