Ecosystem Trust Editorial, Q3 2024 edition

Hello, Atlassian customers and Marketplace Partners!

My name is Anthony, and I’m a Product Marketing Manager on the Ecosystem Trust team at Atlassian. In this first quarterly edition of the Ecosystem Trust Editorial, we’re excited to announce recent and upcoming releases that improve security, compliance, transparency, and efficiency for app developers, admins, and end users. Read on to learn more about what has been and what will be shipped!

What happened in Q2 & Q3?

Compliance

Forge-hosted storage data residency: Data residency is now generally available with apps that store in-scope data on Forge-hosted storage. Data in Forge-hosted storage will remain in the same geolocation as the host product for all new and existing Forge apps. This applies to any current and future geolocations supported by Atlassian.

Forge-hosted storage data residency enables products and apps to be pinned to geolocations.

Marketplace Partner compliance program: Atlassian has partnered with Vanta, a third-party software provider, to simplify and automate data security and privacy compliance for Marketplace Partners. The program is helping Marketplace Partners reduce the time and cost to obtain ISO27k and SOC2 certifications. The Vanta program enables teams to expedite security assessments of Marketplace apps while meeting corporate mandates to procure compliant plugins.

Security

App access rules: Customers who need to prevent third-party plugins from accessing product data can now create data security policies and control apps' access to the content in select Jira projects and Confluence spaces. Those using app access rules can configure policies by creating a list of blocked apps and permitted apps.

Transparency & efficiency

Downtime estimation for app data residency migrations: Downtime estimation approximates the duration of app data residency migrations, helping organizations coordinate operations and determine when to schedule planned downtimes. App developers will set the target time for app data residency migrations, ranging from a minimum of half an hour to a maximum of 24 hours.

Bonterms Standard Legal Agreement: Atlassian now offers the Bonterms Standard Agreement for Marketplace transactions as a streamlined end-user contracting option in the Atlassian Marketplace. The Bonterms Standard Agreement was designed by a committee of 100 lawyers to offer a best-practice standard agreement that balances the interests of both Marketplace Partners and customers.

Coming soon

Security

Secret & malware scanning for Ecoscanner: Atlassian will launch new capabilities for Ecoscanner to scan Data Center apps on the Marketplace for hard coded secrets and potential malware. These additional features help protect your customer data while securing apps and the Atlassian Ecosystem.

Transparency & efficiency

Downtime reduction for app data residency migrations: Downtime reduction decreases the default duration of app data residency migration downtime from 24 hours to two hours. This capability will soon reduce data residency app migration downtime while improving productivity.

Realm persistence: Realm persistence ensures that apps are reinstalled in the same geolocation following app data residency migrations. With this new feature, admins may reinstall apps and are no longer dependent on the completion of migrations.
