how can I see how many cards I have in my column? Can I get this information?

By default, Trello won't show how many cards are in a list. There's a workaround though, which is to set * as the card search for the board.

Because * is a wildcard in the filter, it will match everything on the board, and the "match count" (number of cards matching the filter) will be all cards.

hi, this is really useful but is there a way of making this permeant ? ie if someone removes the "search result" wild card then the count disappears

Never used it before, but this seems to be an answer?:
