Will WYSIWYG format be enforced eventually without an option to toggle Legacy editor?

The markdown format of the legacy editor has always been my primary reason for using Trello, so to see a new editor be added that blasphemes it with a vastly different system has me worried for future use. If there is an intention to no longer allow switching off to the Legacy editor, it would pretty much immediately result in myself preferring to find a different service instead of waste time learning something over the format I've used for almost 10 years.

I think it would be ideal if there can be some confirmation of rather or not a toggle will be kept permanently to switch between the two. It's already in a pretty out-of-the-way location to swap back to markdown, and given that it's in the Labs section it gives the impression it will be removed eventually.

Would it not be better to just have both systems as an option so people like myself who use markdown do not feel compelled to find a different service?

Hey, Cantus!

I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but once the WYSIWYG editor is fully implemented, the markdown editor will no longer be available. This is an intended permanent change.

Having both editors available at the same time similar to what we have today isn't likely to happen, as we'd have to create new features that interact with card descriptions aiming for both editors simultaneously, essentially doubling the development effort.

Still, we don't have a date yet to sunset the markdown editor, and until then, you can continue to use it in your workflow.

Very unfortunate I can't bring you better news, but feel free to reach out if you have questions!

Thanks for the information, it's unfortunate to have to leave Trello due to this but markdown is a necessary format for my usage due to how it curbs typing times and is more familiar to my team. On to greener pastures it seems!

I would love to know where you end up, I'm contemplating the same shift.  The editor was why I switched to Trello in the first place.

the same for me. Markdown uses less space btw lines and was easier to remove unwanted hyperlinks. Let us know were you migrate

@Nic Bentulan Yes, the editor change is planned for the web and app versions of Trello

@Renato Fagaraz wow that's sad.

1 - what's the point of this anyway - why don't you just have both options like what reddit does?

2 - do majority of people really prefer forced WYSIWYG only over forced markdown only - like you did a survey or something (and assuming no middleground of both options) ?
