When creating cards by email, how can I turn off that subsequent replies are added as comments?

Dear Community,

I've set it up so that I can create Trello cards by sending emails from my Gmail-Inbox to the board in question.

When I send replies or forwards of the same email to the board this way, they are added to the original card as a comment - even when the card is already archived or the due date checked as "Done".

Does anyone know how I can stop this from happening?

Thanks for your help.

Best Regards
Pia

There isn't a way to disable that unfortunately - this is a feature that's baked into the email-to-board feature. As long as you're replying to or forwarding the original email, it will be added as a comment on that first card that was created.

If you reply to or forward a follow-up reply from that email, or if you were to email your board directly, it should create a new card for you.

Once nice thing about Gmail is that each email has a unique URL - maybe an alternative could be to create a new email each time you want a new card created, then paste the URL of the original email into the body. That way, you could create a new card each time, but you'd be able to navigate back to the original message in Gmail.

Not perfect, but possibly a decent workaround!

If you reply to or forward a follow-up reply from that email, or if you were to email your board directly, it should create a new card for you.

Thank you very much, Cody, much appreciated. Could I ask you to rephrase that? I am not a native speaker and I am having troubles to understand this.

Considering that forwarded emails are meant to be acted upon* I don't see how it's not a bug that those emails are getting attached to cards that are already archived.

* else one would not forward them to a board

I apologize Franz, I'm doing some more testing and I didn't give you accurate information!

I'm going to create a ticket on your behalf so we don't get too far off track. That will help us look directly at your scenario without discussing potentially private details. You should receive an email from our ticketing system shortly.

Once we've had a closer look, I can update my original reply to make sure it's 100% accurate!
