When I add a new card there is no text box to write notes, underneath the Activity header

The card text box to make notes (under the activity header) shows for existing cards, but when I try and make a new one it is missing.

Are you able to check the board settings to see if comments have been disabled? https://help.trello.com/article/792-disabling-comments-on-cards
