Sort a list in real time

Is it possible to set an automation for a list to sort the cards in realtime by due day

I always use the "when a card is added to list {listname}, sort the list..."

Sounds like a perfect use case for Board Buttons. You will just need to add a board button and choose the sorter actions and then add all the lists in which you want to sort their cards based on due date:
