Need to use MS Power Automate to refresh SQL dB with Trello Board Checklists and Custom Fields

Jim Conachan October 23, 2020

I am trying to use the Dynamic Content fields in Power Automate (PA) available for Trello.  I don't see anything for Custom Fields at all.  Help on this would be much appreciated, as I need to refresh a dB nightly with all Custom Field data.

The second issue are Checklists, and I'm sure it's me doing something wrong.  In PA the use of the Control action:  Apply To Each is used like a For Next Loop.  I'm trying to use the Apply To Each in this order as a nested loop of sorts, starting with the Trello option in PA "List The Cards in a Board".

  1. for each Card ID,
  2. for each Checklists
  3. adding the following records to an Excel sheet (just for testing purposed) :
    1. Checklists Card ID
    2. Checklists Checklist ID
    3. Checklists Checklist Name

Here is the error I'm getting in PA:

The execution of template action 'Apply_to_each' failed: the result of the evaluation of 'foreach' expression '@items('Apply_to_each_2')?['id']' is of type 'String'. The result must be a valid array.

A screen shot of the MS Flow I'm using is below

(and please disregard the field names to left of the Trello dynamic content fields ... those are irrelevant).

Thank you for any help you might provide for finding Custom Fields and helping me figure out why looping properly.

Jim

I'm looking at some of the Trello workflows in Power Automate, and it's looking like the majority of those are built by Microsoft, or by the community (https://flow.microsoft.com/en-us/connectors/shared_trello/trello/). My hunch is that these workflows haven't been fleshed out to the point to allow custom data or checklists coming in with the data formatting you're looking for.

While I'm not personally familiar with creating Power Automate workflows, if that's something you're used to working with, it might be a good next step to get in touch with the Microsoft community to see if they can help out with getting the data you need.

I know Trello's API provides methods to get that data, but I'm not sure precisely how Power Automate connects with information. Here's a little more detail on custom data fields through our API: https://developer.atlassian.com/cloud/trello/guides/rest-api/getting-started-with-custom-fields/

Another option would be to take a look at other option while those PA workflows are being worked on by the community - I know Zapier is a decent option for this: https://zapier.com/apps/trello/integrations
