Is there a simple way to assign members to a list and not a specific card?

I've developed our companies strategic plan in Trello - each category of the plan is represented by a list such as Donor Development - Governance etc. Under each list are a set of cards which represent action items to complete as well as various supporting documents.

Different teams have been setup to work on different lists so I am working why I just can't assign members to a list instead of having to assign them on every card under the list?

Hi @Paul Wessel

You can't assign Users to a List - but would auto-setting Members based on which List a Card is in work as a similar alternative?

---

You could do this using Butler - for example, to create this rule:

  • On your Board, select the Automation button near the top
  • Select Rules from the drop-down menu
  • Press Create Rule
  • Add a Trigger
    • Type = Card Move
    • Logic = when a card is added to list <list name here>
  • Next, add an Action
    • Type = Members
    • Logic = remove all the members from the card
  • Then, add another Action
    • Type = Members
    • Logic = add member @ <username> to the card
  • Create additional Actions if there is more than one member to add
  • Save/Create the Rule

---

A few notes on this rule:

  • For the trigger, the logic added to means "created, copied, emailed or moved into the list" - if you want to be more specific, you could use a different option like moved into
  • The "remove all members" action ensures that the Members are not added to, but replaced. You could remove this if not relevant to your logic
  • You would need one Rule per List

---

With this Automation, the Members would then auto-change as the card moves across the board :)
