Working with a team who previously had used Trello but ran into issues with a card limits and had to move away from using Trello.
Does anyone know if there are currently any card limits? Can you 'archive' cards to make way for more cards? Is there some kind of throttling/limiting per different service tier you buy?
They were using Trello ~5 years ago so not sure if this changed and what the limitations are, as we're trying to make an informed decision on if we stay with trello and it will support our needs or if we need to find something else based on the volume of our project management workload.
Hi Megan, welcome to the community! :)
There are some limits set at a product level to ensure things perform well for all Trello users. That being said, these limits aren't tied to specific plans of Trello - they're applicable to all plans.
Our limits page can be found here: https://trello.com/1/resource/limits. Although you'll probably notice it's not very human readable. Tip - when you open the page, if you right click and save as a JSON file, you can drag and drop it into the Firefox browser to see a more readable version.
In terms of Card limits, a board can have up to 5000 open cards. It can have up to 2000000 total cards (which includes archived cards). In most cases, we don't generally see these limits reached unless customers have particularly large boards. Also, as you approach these limits you may see a decrease in performance given there's a lot more the board has to load up when opened.
If you do encounter any performance issues, we have a useful doc which provides suggestions on how to approach this: https://support.atlassian.com/trello/docs/troubleshooting-a-slow-board/.
Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions!
