Hello Trello Community,

I’m trying to create an automation using Butler that allows me to automatically "watch" a card whenever a due date is added to it. I've tried exploring the "Rules" and "Due Date Automation" sections, but I couldn't find a clear way to implement this specific action.

Here’s what I need:

  1. Trigger: When a due date is set on a card.
  2. Action: Automatically "watch" the card so I receive notifications related to it.

I’ve already verified that:

  • Notifications for due dates are enabled in my account.
  • I’m the only person working in my Trello board, and I’m already a member of the board.

However, despite being a member of the board, I only receive notifications if I manually "watch" the card. Can anyone guide me on how to achieve this automation or confirm if it’s possible?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hello,

Here’s how you can do it:

1. Open the Butler menu on your Trello board
2. Navigate to the Rules section and click on Create Rule.
3. Set up the trigger. Choose A due date is added to a card as the trigger condition.
4. Set up the action. Select Watch the card as the action to be performed when the trigger condition is met.
5. Save the rule.

Once this rule is active, every time you or someone else adds a due date to a card, Butler will automatically make you watch the card, ensuring you receive notifications for any updates related to it.

If this doesn’t work due to limitations in your current Butler command allocation (free plans have limits), you may need to manually watch cards or explore third-party automation tools like Zapier for additional flexibility.
