How to assign and acknowledge To-Dos in Slack

I am trying to get the most out of connecting Trello to Slack. Is there a way to assign a to-do list to someone in the Slack channel who does not have a Trello account? How do they check off a task as "completed?"

I reached out to Slack support and they said to ask Trello for help.

They will be notified in Slack and can check off the task as "completed" directly in the Slack channel.
