How to Upgrade Only My Account (Not Entire Workspace) for Trello Premium Benefits?

Hi Trello Community,

I’m currently managing multiple boards and want to add more team members to specific ones. However, when I try to upgrade for Premium features (e.g., unlimited members, advanced automation), Trello requires me to upgrade all workspaces/teams, not just my own account. Some team members only need access to a single board or is for two people, and I don’t want to pay for upgrades they don’t require.

Is there a way to apply Premium features only to my account?

Or is this a limitation of Trello’s current pricing structure? Any advice or workarounds would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Hey there!

When you make a purchase, you are purchasing a Workspace. It's not just a billing limitation, it's how Trello itself is structured as a program. Trello Premium workspaces are a separate concept from the free plan. You pay per billable user, but "accounts" or "users" are not free or premium. They have access to Workspaces that have different features.

However, if a guest is only on one board, then they are considered non-billable and you won't have to pay for them!

Single-board guests are free

If you are okay with the limitations of Free Workspaces and don't need them to connect with each other, you can also put some boards on a Free Workspace(s) and others on a Premium Workspace. This would only save you if:

a) The users accessing the Free Workspace do not need access to more than 1 board in the Premium Workspace.

b) If you have multiple Free Workspaces, you can chop it up so that, on any individual Workspace, there are only 10 boards/users. However, those users in the Free Workspace can be on multiple boards in the Free Workspace without a bill. Multiple Board Guests are only billable on plans that have a cost in the first place.

Hi DiMaggio! Thank you for the response! :)

But I don't think I explained myself well. I have 1 workspace, but I want to be able to see, for example, schedules or be able to set deadlines by line and not just by card. So ... I want to do the Upgrade to my account, but not necessarily to the entire members of my workspace, because I am not going to pay for everyone (they don’t require)

I don't know if I am explaining myself correctly :( Could you explain me, please!

@Alexandra

Greetings, Alexandra! Glad to help.

Unfortunately, the only thing that can be upgraded is a Workspace. You cannot upgrade an "account" to premium because there is no such thing as a premium account. that means there's not a way to only give one account premium features.

If you upgrade a Workspace to a paid plan, then you have to pay for a seat for all members on that Workspace that are on more than one board. If they are on just one board, you don't have to pay for them as long as they also meet the other requirements in the above link I gave you.

I understand you only want one account to have access to Premium features, but that is not how Trello works.

My suggestions about multiple workspaces were one idea for a workaround for you. Since I don't know your entire setup, I can't say for sure if that would even help you or not.

Sorry there's not a way to pay for just one account! Let me know if I can explain this better or if you have further questions.
