How do I automatically change dates

Hi,

We use Trello and Planyway to manage our kitchen projects from initial designs through to fitting. Both are great! But we'd like to find a way to link these to our 16 week process, so that we can see at a glance what needs doing each week for a given project. In addition, if a delivery date has to slip, can we automate Trello/Planyway so that by changing the due date, all the associated dates automatically change by the same amount?

Thanks,

Rob

Hi @Robert Chisholm ! Welcome to the community :) it is possible to automatically update due dates in cards using butler automation. However, there needs to be some way to link these related cards together so butler knows which cards to update. How are you currently associating cards?

To chain on to what @Hannah Morgan is saying, if the related cards are attached to the card, you could create a rule that says "when the due date changes, for each card attached, move the due date by the same amount"

Hi Hannah and Brittany, thanks so much for this, really appreciate it! Let me pick this up with Cat in our team tomorrow (UK time) and we will have a look at this...we will come back to you!

Sorry - user error...posted my reply as an answer...

Hi Hannah and Brittany,

As a fairly inexperienced user we may need to go back a few steps here!

We use a single board for our portfolio of projects. We have lists for every stage of the process e.g. Initial enquiries, Concept Design, Detailed Design, Ordered, Fitting etc. Within each list there is a card for each client/project. We move the client card from list to list as they move through the process.

On each card we use the due date for the fitting start. In addition, we have created custom fields for all other relevant dates e.g. the go/no go decision point 4 weeks before delivery, the appliance delivery date, the worktop fitting date etc.

If the delivery date changes, then we want all the associated dates to change by the same amount, rather than have to do each date manually.

Does that help?

To answer the question, we don't link cards together.

Do you think we can find a way to link dates without changing how we use the cards?

Thank you!

@Robert Chisholm ah i don't think you can do it that way because what you need is this action in the due date actions

but that option doesn't exist in the fields for custom date fields.

(That bottom action i the closest you can get but it won't shift by the same amount of time, so i don't think it's going to help)

Thanks, Brittany, that's what I've come to realise, too.

So, if I've understood this correctly, to do this we'd need to use a separate card for each step in the process...

@Robert Chisholm yep i believe so because you can only have one due date on a card, and that "move by same amount of time" action is only available on due dates
