I am trying to connect Trello to Motion, my goal is to have everything assigned to me get sent to the Motion app as a task. I thought I could use Zapier to do this, but I don't see a way to get Checklist task assignments trigger an automation. Has anyone used Trello this way?

Hi @Meredith Donaldson

It's Mary from Planyway calendar for Trello

Try this:

1. Custom Zapier Workaround

  • Direct Integration Limitation: Zapier might not offer direct support for checklist tasks in Trello as triggers. This means you may not find a pre-built trigger for "Checklist task assignments" in Trello.
  • Possible Workaround: You could use a broader trigger related to card activity (e.g., "New Activity in Card" or "Card Moved to List") and then filter these triggers based on specific criteria that match your checklist tasks. This approach requires a bit of manual setup and testing to ensure it captures only the events you're interested in.

2. Utilize Trello Card Assignments

  • Card Assignments as Proxy: If checklist items are consistently assigned to cards that are assigned to you, you might use the "Card Assigned to Member" trigger as a proxy. This approach leverages the assignment of the entire card, assuming that if a card is assigned to you, all its checklist tasks are relevant to you as well.

3. Intermediate Steps or Tools

  • Using Trello Automation: Consider using Trello's built-in automation tool, Butler, to create specific card actions when checklist tasks are assigned or completed. For example, Butler can automate the creation of a new card or the addition of a label/comment based on checklist activity, which can then be used as a trigger in Zapier.

Hope it can help you. As the alternative, you can research Planyway calendar, which apart from Trello also integrates with Google Calendar, Outlook an others and allows you to see only cards and checklist items assigned to you.

I wonder if keyboard Maestro would be able to accomplish this. I use Motion, too.
I know Akiflow does this right out of the box. FWIW.
It seems you'd want to copy the name of the card, then copy the url of the card, switch to Motion, then hit the new task button, then paste the name of the card as task name, then paste the url in the notes. Of the top of my head, I don't know how you would create a duration or chunks or a deadline, etc.
