This should be super simple. I set dates against tasks. The dates go red in Trello when due – but if I forget to check, I miss them!

I’m 98 per cent certain I’ve set notifications the right way. I should get an email when a task is due – but no email!

I use Trello on a Mac, and Outlook for Mail for email.

Help!

@Sarah Townsend welcome to the community!

So you should be able to check you've got due date notifications turned on by going here:
https://trello.com/u/me/account

If you see Due dates checked there, make sure you're not getting the emails in spam or something?

Here's what the email should look like if you want to try some search filters to see if it's getting stuck in a folder or something.

If that's not working, I'd then recommend checking you've actually set due dates reminders. I think by default there's not a reminder, so when you set the due date, you'll want to open that dropdown and choose a frequency.

If it ends up being that you haven't set that due date reminder and you're like "dang am i gonna have to do that on all of them!?" Try this.

1. Head to Automation (click the lightning bolt in the top right of your board), and click Rules, then click Due Dates on the left side panel.

2. Click the blue Create Automation button and then click Add Trigger

3. Click the + button on one of those rows that fits when you'd like a notification. Such the moment it's due, 1 day before, etc

4. Now add an action. Click the Content tab, and you can scroll down to see the "send email" action. Just type in your email, and then use Automation Variables to customize the email notification. For instance, maybe the subject is {cardname} is about to be due! And in the email body, you can include {cardlink} or any of those other details. Clcik the blue plus button at the end of that row, save your rule, and you're ready to roll!

Jeeze some of the screenshots are turning out weird - just click on them and they should appear correctly 😂

(Weirdly, I can only view the screenshots in my email…)

Thanks so much for your comprehensive answer! I worked through the steps and it turned out I was doing everything right – I just hadn’t set myself as the person to receive the notification!

Hopefully now I’ve done that (manually 😬) it’ll work… I’ve been using Trello since 2016 and always been frustrated by this! (Wish they just had a help desk, but your answer was probably more helpful anyway 😃)

I had no idea there were automations, either. I don’t have them on the iPhone app but will look on desktop and see what else I can do…

Thanks again!
