Global Variables

Brodie Zambergs October 9, 2023

We're exploring trello as a potential tool to manage our sprint planning. We have a very basic requirement where essentially we have an "end-date" of the sprint and would like to automate the due date component via an automation on the card.

We're struggling however to find how to set a "Global Variable" being the end of the current sprint to then assign the due date to. I can see lots of options to refer to custom fields etc but this is a per card basis.

Essentially we'd like to set a date at the "global" level and then have the trigger use that date into the actions and set the date to this "static" date.

Hey Brodie! We don't currently have global variables, but I've seen a few scenarios like this before, and I'm afraid the best suggestion I have is to use a static date in the automation rule then update it each Sprint.

For example, you could create a rule like this:

2023-10-11_15-14-11.png

The downside is that you'd need to update it each sprint, but a card's due date could easily be fixed by moving it out, then back into that list!

Ahh that's a shame. It also means we're dependent on the user of the automation being available to update it (so it updates on all our project boards) or we need to disable/copy the automation each time.

Thanks for the suggestion it's what we'll go with!
