Custom Covers on Dashcards

Edited

I'm trying to add a custom image as the cover for a dashcard. I hit the track button, and created a dashcard with an emoticon title (, 'O'), and then I copied it:

Then I attached an image to the second copy, and tried to change the cover, but the change cover button doesn't show my attached image:

So in the Attachments section I clicked on the "Make cover" link

step4-make-cover-fail.png

And the tracking number 13 vanishes. Any way to get that back? I do notice that the Dashcard filter still seems to be on the card:

The way Dashcards works is it sets the card cover.  So if you change the cover then you won't see the metric you are tracking on the cover anymore.  You can edit the dashcard though I believe and it will reset itself as the cover.  You can't change the cover and still have it be a Dashcard cover.

Yeah I suppose that makes sense in a way. The part that doesn’t make sense is that when I create the card, I can select an image for the cover, just not one that I provide. What also doesn’t make sense is that if I change the cover, the metric seems to vanish forever. Is there no way to get it back? Do I just have to make a new card?

Try this:

- Open the dashcard

- Click on the "Explore and edit" blue button

- In the window that appears, there's a representation of the dashcard at the top left. If you look on the right corner of this dashcard respresentation there is an icon.

- When you hover over the icon it says "Change tile background". Click on that to change the tile background (instead of changing the card cover which is what you did originally).

This should give you back your dashcard cover and your chosen background. Sorry for the confusion.

When you open the card there is a button that says "Explore and edit" that lets you change the details on the Dashcard.

After clicking that you will see the dashcard in the top left and there is an image icon in the top right of that dashcard.  If you click that you can set whatever image you want.

The cover will also come back when the dashcard changes. (i.e. if your dashcard was "all open cards on this board" then making a new card will reset the cover).

@Oscar Triscon @Michael Pryor Fair enough, but this is bad UX.

There is an established workflow for managing cover art on every card type on the board. The fact that Dashcards do not follow this established convention is simply confusing for users. Even worse is the fact that if users follow that normal convention it can functionally break the utility of the automated card.
