Collection of the Limitations and Annoyances with the Free Version of Trello

Edited
Deleted user Feb 18, 2023

Just an FYI to anyone getting started with Trello, I am recording a list of the limitations and annoyances with the Trello tool:

  • Cannot see all Cards (for a specified List, like "Doing") across all Boards and Workspaces.
    • Cards view shows everything in a bulky list, and you cannot filter to a particular List.
  • Butler Rules are great but there is no way to enable them across all Boards and Workspaces. You have go to in manually, one-by-one, and enable any Butler Rule(s) you've created. Time consuming and painful and presents the risk that you forget to do it each time you create a new Board and Workspace.
  • There is no enable globally feature for installed Power-Ups. Again, you have go to in manually, one-by-one, and Search and Add tour favorite Power-Ups on each Board and Workspace. Painful.
  • CAUTION: some power-ups do not work with AdBlocker extension(s) in Chrome on a Macbook (there may be other browsing combinations as well).

More to come as I use Trello.

Apart from the last power-up/adblock problem, yes, these are all problems, but they're all things that Trello simply isn't intended for.

It sounds to me like you should be looking at an issue tracker, not a noteboard tool.

Thanks @Nic Brough -Adaptavist-

Yes, I am looking for a simple task tracker ("to do" list app) that allows for a lot more ease and simplicity than Trello seems to provide. Trello is just too complicated for simple task tracking.

Just a little bit ago, I installed Todoist and quickly tested it. It does exactly what I am looking for and it's iPhone app works and behaves identical to the browser app.

So I deleted my Trello account!

Most people would say that I should be trying to encourage you back to Trello, but it sounds like you really don't need anything as powerful as Trello, and the primitive functions of Todoist is all you need.

I'm firmly in the "if it works best for you, use that" camp, so I'm not going to try!  (Todoist is great when you don't need anything beyond a basic to-do list, I use it myself.  Albeit with a Jira connection, so some items are in sync)
