Can't quickly assign labels to new cards with '#' anymore?

Previously, I had the ability to click on 'add new card' or press 'N', write a title, and utilize the '#' symbol within the same text field to swiftly select and assign a label to the new card. However, I've noticed this feature is no longer available. When I press '#', no list of labels drops down.

I'm wondering if this issue is unique to me or if this function has been removed altogether?

Hi All,

Don't shoot the messenger but it seems that Atlassian decided to remove this feature without telling anyone also...

Please see this post:

I just stumbled upon this on Reddit. Yes, it definitely looks like they've taken away the feature. What's happening over at Trello!?

It appears they have removed this feature. Quote from Atlassian, found on Reddit:

We have recently decided to remove the Card Composer Options feature, and I'm sorry for bringing this bad news. The Card Composer Options feature allowed people to add members and labels to cards before they were created by using the three dots at the bottom right of your list or by using shortcuts, for example, # for labels. While this feature was certainly useful for some users, it also represented a pretty significant technical complexity and maintenance effort that didn't match up with how much it was being used.

By removing the Card Composer Options feature, we're streamlining card creation and laying the foundation for better card creation improvements in the future. There are still a few ways to use shortcuts to add members and labels to cards that we recommend:

You can use the 1-0 keys or the L key on your keyboard to apply labels to cards while hovering over them in the board view or while a card is open.

Pressing the M key will let you add members to a card, also while hovering in the board view or while the card is open.

Another useful shortcut: When creating a new card, type the card title, then press Shift+Enter to create it (instead of Enter by itself). It will create and open the card at the same time. This makes the L and M shortcuts a bit more accessible!

If you like me are bothered by this change, I suggest you make the team working on it aware by sending feedback about the new way of work regarding labels through this link:

I'm having the same issue. The '@' shortcut is also not working any more. I'm using the web-version and tried Firefox and Chrome as well as different boards.

Same here ... I thought I was going crazy when it stopped working last week ... tried different browsers, accounts, colleagues ...

Guess our "issue" is intended, by the description above. I already sent my feedback to Atlassian, make sure you do the same.

Thank you for sharing, Mike. I actually came to a similar solution, but unfortunately, it didn't work out because they removed another feature shortly after figuring out this workaround: instead of allowing manual input, they made it necessary to select from a list.

Hope they'll reintroduce the seemingly popular "#-feature" in the future.
