Can't copy part of a card text anymore

Hi, I have a problem with Trello.

Recently, behavior of copying while inline card editing (when I click RMB on a card) has been changed: now even if I select part of the text to copy it, Ctrl+C copies a link to the card (and a notification is shown).

Can I somehow enable the old behavior when copying exactly the selected text?

Thanks in advance!

Hey there! I gave this a test, but I haven't been able to replicate quite yet. Here's what I'm trying:

  1. Open a board, right-click on the card's title (this opens the quick menu with the option to Open card, Edit labels, Change members... etc)
  2. Highlight one of the words
  3. Press the CTRL + C combo

From there, I can paste the result into the same field, or another location, and only that highlighted word is pasted.

Could you give a little more detail to help narrow this down - for example:

  1. What operating system are you using?
  2. Are you using the desktop app, or the web version?
  3. If you're using the web version, what browser are you using?

I think what I'd try next is to try from a second browser, or an incognito tab of the same browser with all extensions disabled to see if you see the same result.

Let us know if that helps out!

Hi, thank you for your reply. Sure, I'm happy to give more info.

For me, it works like this:
1. Open a board, right-click on the card's title (this opens the quick menu with the option to Open card, Edit labels, Change members... etc)
2. Highlight one of the words
3. Press the CTRL + C combo

Actual behavior (it works so for about a month already):
* Two notifications in the bottom left corner are shown: "Card copied to clipboard", "Paste while hovering over a list to copy this card to that list".
* From there, I can paste the result into the same field, or another location, and a link like "https://trello.com/c/..." is pasted.

Expected behavior (and it worked like this earlier this year, and looks like it works for you):
* No such notifications are shown because they seem unrelated.
* From there, I can paste the result into the same field, or another location, and only that highlighted word is pasted.

Requested details:
1. OS Windows 10.
2. Web https://trello.com.
3. Firefox (at the moment, 119.0 (64-Bit)).

Hmm, I've checked in incognito and in Edge, it worked to me well. I tried to force reload and to relogin, but it didn't help. What helped was to "clear cookies and site data in FireFox" as per https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/clear-cookies-and-site-data-firefox.

So the problem is solved, thank you :)

Addition: disabling Adblocker was needed too.

So the solution is to disable Adblocker and clear site data. If Adblocker is enabled again, the issue happens again, and after disabling Adblocker site data needs to be cleared again.

I have the same issue and like Callie, the solutions provided did not work.

For me it happens while I'm editing the Description on a card.

It's dangerously problematic because I often use Cut/Paste to move text around - and when I select then CTRL+X to cut a few paragraphs of text, Trello removes the text from the editor, but then immediately overwrites the clipboard contents with the link to the card - thus my text is lost from both the Description and the clipboard.

I have to close the card without saving, reopen it, enter the "UNSAVED EDITS" UI and then Discard Changes in order to get my cut text back.

I'm encountering the same symptoms and the workaround didn't resolve the issue for me:

OS - ChromeOS v119

Web version

Browser - Chrome v119

In my case, disabling all extensions and deleting cookies did not fix the issue, and neither did using an incognito window, or another machine entirely (Mac, same browser version).

Same for me (MacOS, Chrome v119 and Fedora 39/Firefox 120)

I haven't been able to replicate quite yet in Chrome v119 and MacOS Sonoma. Do you see the same result in other browsers?

My hunch is it's something local since we aren't seeing widespread reports, but I'm not quite sure what it would be if all extensions have been disabled.

Are you trying the same steps as SerVB?

1. Open a board, right-click on the card's title
2. Highlight one of the words
3. Press the CTRL/CMD + C combo

With that combination, I'm able to copy single words within a card's title. Do you see the same result if you highlight the word you want to copy, then right-click on it and choose Copy from the resulting menu?
