Hi There! We use Trello to track our new hire onboarding as we are constantly hiring many part-time employees. Our onboarding has a few stages, offer letter sent, compliance review, HR invites, and Onboarding complete.
I have setup automations for each stage based on a custom field drop-down called "Stage". for example, when a card's stage custom field is set to compliance, I have Trello auto-move that card to a list and tag the compliance member attached to that card.
We have automations like this for each stage
However what seems to be happening is 1 of 3 things:
1. It works correctly (woohoo)
2. The wrong automation will trigger (for example, the HR automation will trigger when placed into compliance stage)
Below are screenshots of the automations: Any ideas?
3. The automation will not trigger at all until you flip the stage back to (Stage A) and then back again to Stage B to trigger stage B's automation.
Hey Ryan, correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the trigger should simply be "when the "Compliance Member" field is set..."
You could also streamline this into one simple rule using variables:
when custom field "Member" is set in a card with custom field "Stage" set to "Compliance", move the card to the top of the list "Compliance", and post comment "@{customfieldvalue} compliance docs are ready"
So that way, you're not having to create a new rule every time a new member comes on board.
It would look like this:
Thanks Hannah! This seems to be working. Question though, there are times where I will set a card to the stage and the automation will not trigger until I change the stage to another one and then back again. Have you experienced this?

Hey @Hannah Humbert - Simpla Workflows , Trello is not auto tagging the individual like it did in your Gif (Hannah is the example in your gif). Perhaps I have it setup wrong?

@Ryan Smith it looks like you've created a card button to trigger the automation? The {customfieldvalue} variable only works when the trigger contains something like "when custom field xx is set to yy".
Did you try the rule that I posted in the comment above?
I used LICEcap to create the GIF :)
Also, I do Trello consulting, so if you want to jump on a screen share and get this all figured out, I'd be happy to offer a free 30 mins. Might be quicker/easier that way! Here's my calendar.
