Hi everyone,

I'm trying to build an automation on Trello and I need some help, because I'm not seeing the options to achieve what I need.

We've a board with lots of labels and custom fields. These custom fields for some reason, only allow us to select one - they're not multiple choice, we don't have the option, even though I've enterprise account.

So, the idea is, when selecting a specific label, it would hide some custom fields (or only show the desired ones)

How can we do this via butler/automation rules?

Thank you

Hi @Goncalo Marques Morais

Right now we don't have a way to show/hide specific Custom Fields on specific cards, when you create a custom field it'll show on all the cards on that board.

Something you could try as an alternative would be to create a rule that when a specific label is added to a card, a comment is added to the card advising which of the Custom Fields are needing to be completed. 🙂

Hi Nathan,

Thank you for the response.
The suggested workaround might be a good idea, but I'm thinking if that's not going to create a lot of "noise" and unnecessary info on the board/several cards?

Thank you

Hi @Goncalo Marques Morais

It definitely could create extra notifications for people if they're a member of a card or watching a card when a comment's added to it.

You could try using the same rule but instead of adding a comment, maybe add a line to the cards description with the custom fields that are required that could be removed by the person who completes the custom fields. Is that something that would work?
This way you wouldn't be adding any extra comments or fields to a card and it shouldn't create any notifications for anyone watching the card. 🙂

Or, automation can also send out emails, so if you didn't want this to show in Trello at all, you could change the rule so that when a label's added an email is sent out (either to specific email address or to board members) advising the custom fields need to be added. This would keep any extra info out of your board but it would create noise in an inbox so might not be a perfect solution.
