Accidentally deleted workspace -- now workspace still available but all boards are missing

zhuole lee November 18, 2021

Dear Trello Community,

I have made the mistake of deleting a workspace instead of leaving it, as I was trying to tidy up my Trello homepage to make it easier to access workspaces pertinent to my current work. After the mistake, the boards were all made private and were maxed out to 10, even though originally only 5/6 out of 10 boards were used. As there was nothing I could do to remedy the situation with my normal account, I tried the 14-day-trial of the Premium Version of the workspace. This made all the boards in the workspace disappear and I can not reopen them, as the closed board section tells me that I have no boards that are currently closed.

It says here that the Closed Boards drawer will only show the boards that you are a member of -- I was invited to the workspace via a link and did not collaborate on any single board on the workspace, does this mean that I was not a member of any of the boards? As of now, no one that I know of has a direct link to any of the boards, thereby ruling the option of reopening the boards via link out.

Do you guys have any other suggestions on how I can remedy this situation? I am in dire need of help and would really appreciate any help that can be provided.

Much thanks in advance,

Lee

Hi @zhuole lee 👋

Welcome to the Community! I'm so sorry to hear what's happened but let's see what we can do, we're all here to help as much as we can! A quick couple of questions:

  • When you deleted the workspace (and before the premium trial) could you see all the boards in your closed boards?
  • Do you have the original invitation links to the boards?
  • Are these boards internal or are they from multiple external sources?
  • Are you still on the Premium trial? If so, how long do you have left?

Trello notes: you must be a member of the Workspace and an admin of the board that you would like to associate with the Workspace. So, part of the problem I believe is that whilst you were an invited member of a board you weren't an admin and because there's no Workspace you are unable to associate a board to a Workspace.

I think my recommendation would be to raise a ticket directly with Trello support and see if they can help. If your boards were originally visible in the close boards before the premium trial then they should definitely still be lurking but Trello might be able to help you locate them. You can raise a support ticket here >> https://trello.com/en-GB/contact#/

In the meantime, I'm here and will continue to help 😃

All the best,

Laura

Hello @Laura Holton _ACE Rotterdam_

Thank you for the warm welcome! I will answer your questions accordingly:

  • No, the closed board drawer was also empty before the premium trial. I've then read online somewhere that the premium trial would potentially allow more access to the closed boards, hence.
  • I have the invitation link to overall workspace, and as it was originally the free version, this means (if I've read it correctly) that I became automatically a workspace admin. Sadly I do not have the individual invitation links to the boads.
  • These boards are internal, i.e. they are created from my organisation with a couple of fundamental boards, and everyone with the invite link can work on the boards. They are not imported from external sources, if that is what you meant.
  • I am still on the Premium Trial, but I've cancelled the subscription. It ends in December (in 14 days from now).

I will raise a ticket with Trello support with the details of my workspace and include a link of this question forum page. Thank you so much for your help!

I am also open for any further suggestions to remedy the situation or if you have any further questions.

All the best to you too,

Zhuo Le

That's great, thank you! It's definitely a strange situation as if you were an admin the boards should've just relocated to the 'Closed Boards' section 🤔 On a separate note, it's good to hear all the boards are internal as you can always reach to the teams/departments that own them for an invite as a worst case scenario.

Still I'm glad to hear you raised a ticket, I'm sure Trello will be able to get to the bottom of it for you. I'm keeping my fingers crossed you'll be back up and running in no time 🤞

What do you mean exactly that I can always reach to the teams/departments that own them for an invite? Do you mean contacting the owners of the individual boards for the invite link to maybe restore the boards that way? If so, how would you define an "owner" of a board in a Trello-sense?

Thank you again for your support!
