Why o why can we not sort and filter on custom fields?

This is a super-obvious product improvement. I'm shocked that an app as mature as Trello has that huge gaping hole. Is there an ETA that anyone knows of?

I just submitted a complaint to support about this issue. Was told they would add it to their discussion for a new feature with their product team. I had to same reaction when I was making a card template but then saw my template appear in cards I was making from scratch. I've been going through there forums and reddit to learn how to apply custom fields to specific cards and sadly this not an option. I earliest discussion I saw was from 2019 so it's been on-going issue that is not being addressed. The only work around I found is using power ups but if you use the power ups then don't get to do automation features.  It's very frustrating!

It is an ongoing issue for sure. I've been a heavy user for three years. There are generally very few product improvements, at least that are visible to the end user. The best one lately was the ability to collapse lists. I hope we get this one prioritized soon! Custom fields could be so much more powerful.

It can indeed be frustrating when you're unable to sort and filter on custom fields in certain platforms or applications. There are a few common reasons why this limitation might exist click

1. System Performance Issues

  • Custom fields, depending on how they're structured in a database, can introduce complexity that slows down queries and data retrieval. Sorting and filtering involve significant processing, and applying those operations to custom fields may introduce performance bottlenecks, especially when dealing with large datasets.
