Trello is basically a Kanban tracking system, where you can create boards and supporting lists and cards of tasks that can be assigned, managed, and reported. It gives you easy drag and drop organization on the cards so you can prioritize work and see who is working on what.
it is also an Atlassian tool, so it integrates well with Jira and Confluence for even more functionality.

As Andy already mentioned - if you have an opportunity to join a Trello event, do it! Nothing better than live examples.
I suggest you check out the Trello blog - I love the way they write, and there are plenty of useful articles about Trello usage.
