Update on Collaborator Limit for Free Trello Workspaces

@Brittany Joiner Thank you for responding! So what I am thinking to do  is having 1 workspace with two boards within my workspace. I will buy the standard $5 plan under me only and within those two boards there will be guests who are only in ONE board in that workspace. My questions is since on the free plan it allows up to 10 collaborators. So with the standard plan would I still  be able to select 10 individuals who can be on multiple boards in my workspace?

@Roman you would have to pay $5/mo for each user that you wanted to be on multiple boards. So if you have two boards and 10 people on both of those two boards, you'd pay $50/mo for those 10 people. But if you have 20 people for instance on just one of those boards, you'd only have to pay $5/mo for yourself. Does that make sense?

@Brittany Joiner Yeah I got it now, that's how I originally thought it was. Thanks for the clarification.

I am trying not to break out into a panicked sweat here. I manage so much of my life using Trello, and very happy to pay a reasonable subscription to do so, but if I understand correctly, my continuing to use it the way I have been would cost literally thousands of dollars - I have been using multiple workspaces with lots of guests and collaborators. Do I understand correctly that each subscription upgrade only covers one space AND I have to pay for any guests in those spaces if they are on more than one board?  This seems crazy. I am so sad about this.  I have highly recommended Trello as a collaboration tool for years, and I really, really hope that you all reconsider and add some kind of option that is more reasonable for individuals like me who are not enterprises and cannot afford to pay for everyone who collaborates or is even a guest on our boards.  PLEASE CONSIDER OFFERING SOMETHING TO ALLOW PEOPLE LIKE ME TO NOT LEAVE.

@Lisa Daly Lehmann it may not cost as much as you think - Atlassian is going to release some tools that will help you figure out exactly how many collaborators you have. And you can have as many workspaces as you want, as long as you have less than 10 boards in there.

Typically one has multiple workspaces to avoid having too many collaborators or boards in one workspace, so you might not have overlap. Or if you do, perhaps this could be an opportunity to consolidate and set up your boards so that you have everything in one workspace, pay $5/mo for yourself in that workspace, and then you can bring folks together and only put them in a specific board rather than having multiple boards with users.

It's hard to say without knowing exactly how your workspaces and boards are set up, but unless you need folks in multiple boards, you likely won't have to pay for every collaborator. You'd have to have hundreds of people on multiple boards to be paying thousands, and i would say its going to be tough to find any tool that will let you collaborate with hundreds of people in the same space for free.

I have another question @Brittany Joiner
Thanks for all the help you've been providing with me today, much appreciated. So my issue now is that I have two boards in my workspace that were previously owned by a former employee. I left those boards but they still remain under my workspace. I added everyone in my workspace to one board in the workspace so when I got to buy the premium plan its charging me $12 a month instead of $6. I suspect because this user is in two boards. I am unaware of how to remove them and I don't want to have to pay double the fee because of them. Is there anyway to resolve this issue?

Can you help me upgrade a board to STANDARD not Premium?

@Roman happy to help! And that might be something you need to reach out to support about -  https://trello.com/contact . I'm not really sure what your options are if you can't access a board in your workspace, but I assume they'll be able to help you sort that out. I also have a suspicion that this might be the type of thing that the tools they're going to release would help address.

@dave_anderson you should be able to select Standard from the Upgrade Workspace setting page

Not sure how to reply directly, but @Brittany Joiner in regard to this: "unless you need folks in multiple boards, you likely won't have to pay for every collaborator," yes, I do need to do that. I have grown quite dependent on boards for a variety of things, and I definitely need to assign people to more than one board.

Lisa Daly Lehmann March 6, 2024

Perhaps someone here could help clarify - the "unlimited collaborators" that you get by upgrading a space - what exactly does that mean?  At first I thought it meant I could solve my problem by paying for a standard or premium upgrade, but now it sounds like every collaborator costs more money above and beyond that upgrade.  Is that accurate?

@Lisa Daly Lehmann

> Guests that are only on one board are free on all of Trello's paid plans: https://support.atlassian.com/trello/docs/how-billing-works-with-trello-premium-and-standard/

So you pay $5 for yourself in an upgraded workspace, and then invite unlimited amount of people to a board and you don't pay for them. The payment for users starts when they're in more than one board.

And as far if you do need folks in multiple boards, then yeah you're going to need to pay for those users with these new updates. I've found that's pretty typical of most tools, and its in line with the other Atlassian products as well (Jira, Confluence, etc have those 10 user limits). I find if i use something with lots of folks that's free, then i typically try to have a backup plan if im not willing to pay because those tools don't tend to stick around very long or have enough support for my uses.

Lisa Daly Lehmann March 6, 2024

Ok.  Sadly, I am *very willing to pay,* but NOT in such an open-ended way that makes me responsible for other users as it would if I were running my own business.  This will just not be workable, and I am very sad about it, because I am and have been a very big advocate of Trello as a tool.

I need personalized support and I am not sure how to get it. I cannot find a phone number on this website. Is there actually a way to get customer service?

No added functionality, but now it costs a monthly fee to do what used to be free....what a joke!  Shame on Atlassian.  Good thing our organization has largely navigated away from Trello anyway.  When a certain A to Z online retailer introduced their Prime membership, they added a lot of benefits to get people to sign up for the paid service.  They didn't restrict free users to force them into paying for the same thing they were doing before.  Trello is likely to see a mass exodus.  I've had other apps that tried to pull a stunt like this.  They either lost a lot of users or reversed course pretty quickly.

Thank you for sharing the information on this thread - I need to remove one board which is no longer in use and was set up by an admin no longer in the organisation so our charity can stay at 8 active users - please can someone tell me how I can close an empty board that I am not admin of, so the charity doesn't incur charges?

Bonjour,

Est-ce que quelqu'un de l'équipe Trello peut revenir vers moi svp ?

Je ne me sers de Trello que pour 1 tableau, j'ai 100 salariés et je suis seule administratrice. Suis-je concerné par les tarifs ?

@Caity Need clarity so my team can take action before the deadline set by Atlassian. Given this deadline I will need a response within 1 week, otherwise we will need to take action to migrate our Trello to another platform, which will be a large project for us to do in so short a time.

We have over 100 users on our Trello board. But less than 10 would need to edit or add content, the rest can do fine with read-only access.

My question is: will the new policy limit ALL use of free Trello? Or will it only limit the number of people who can add new content?

In the latter case, we will not need to move our resource database off Trello.

Hi,
I wrote the question, but no one answer. It's a reason why I type it again.

My question is related to one account which company are using for internal. We are using one workspace where are 7 boards.
I am writing to seek clarification on how Trello identifies 'collaborators'. Specifically, I have noticed that the total count of collaborators on my account includes guests as well.

As this may potentially impact the accuracy of monthly calculations, I would appreciate a better understanding of why guests are included in the collaborators list.

Also, if 5 people in our company invited to 7 boards, as a managers. Should they have a standard or premium account?
It will be helpful, if you can provide example of calculations for different cases.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Hello @Erika Storli how are you? Could you provide me with the contact information for someone on the team here in Brazil? I work for a company with over 100 employees who use Trello. Thank you very much.

Hi there, I have a personal Trello account and a Work Trello account - how would I go about moving the personal workspace that is in my work account over to my personal account, as I'm really the only one using my workspace, but I don't think our company intends to start paying for a higher plan?  I don't want to lose edit access to the workspace I use.  I saw the article about transferring ownership, but it doesn't look that is making a copy.  How should I proceed?  Thx

I just received the announcement. How many users are allowed in the Standard plan? I don't see that anywhere in the plan descriptions.

I have an old user that is no longer part of my organization but they are the admin of several boards in our workspace. We obviously don't want to be wasting a valuable collaborator/guest seat on a ghost! Is there anyway to forcibly remove that user from our workspace and/or reassign the admin privileges to a user that *is* still active in our organization?
